News and Commentary Archive for December, 2004 December 1, 2004: Dr. Rice confirmation hearing postponed. Saying that it would be "inappropriate" to hold confirmation hearings in December, the White House asks that the Senate hold hearings in January. Seems rather vague to us, but there must be some good reason that is not immediately apparent. The Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov seems anxious to meet her. His comments are here on Novosti, the Russian News agency. President Bush, Dr. Rice and outgoing Secretary Powell are together in Canada. The President is scheduled to address the Canadian people today. December 1, 2004: When is an apology, not an apology? When it is made by Madison, Wisconsin, "shock-jock" John "Sly" Sylvester, the program director and morning personality on WTDY-AM. This "journalist" apologized to local newspapers in an open letter for using the term "Aunt Jemima" to describe Dr. Rice -- but not for calling Dr. Rice an "incompetent, dishonest political appointee...(who has) allowed herself to be used as a black trophy." (Read it here.) It is not often that I find myself on the same side of an issue as outgoing NAACP president Kweisi Mfume. He said the attacks on Rice, "are just as bad as those who hide under sheets and burn crosses." A spineless radio station management, refuses to discipline, or remove, "Sly" from the airwaves. Ironically, the broadcasting company's name is "Mid-West Family Broadcasting." The general manager, Tom Walker, was quoted as saying: "I don't agree with his comments, and I don't like them." (Well, if that's true then Mr. Walker, why don't YOU do something about it?) Perhaps, letting Mr. Walker know that we do not appreciate his use of the PUBLIC airwaves for racial invective might prompt him to "do the right thing." (You can reach him at WTDY, P.O. Box 2058, Madison, WI 53701; Business Office: (608) 273-1000; Fax Line: (608) 271-8182, or e-mail thebigboss@wtdy.com. Radio stations are licensed to operate in the public interest. Making racial slurs during "prime time" surely cannot be considered to be in the "public interest". Here is the link on how to complain to the FCC. We are not "prudes" and enjoy an occasional risqué joke. Occasionally, even one with racial overtones, but on the public airways on morning drive time? December 2, 2004: Condi for President in 2008 Office?! Yes, it may be a reality soon! A real, albeit, modest office with part-time clerical help, filing cabinets, a telephone, fax, etc. to handle to increasing volume of correspondence and interest. If interest and volume warrants, we'll keep you posted on future developments. December 3, 2004: Bumper Sticker Reprinting. As our bumper stickers are sold, new ones will have to be ordered -- probably before the end of the week. Do you have a design idea? Would you like to donate your creative talents to this website and the "Draft Condi" movement? E-mail design@americansforrice.com with your ideas. December 3, 2004: Betting on the Future? It may not be legal in the US, but in the UK and Ireland you can already bet on the outcome of the 2008 election. Dr. Rice is currently 10 to 1! Not bad with 4 years to go, but Hillary is 5 to 1! You can go see the "toteboard" here. December 3, 2004: Guestbook for Americans for Dr. Rice (formerly Condi4Prez.com) created. Instead of individual e-mails, now you can "sign the guestbook." See the buttons to the left. December 5, 2004: Aljazeera "chimes-in" with an article entitled "New US Team Reflects Bush's World View". Dr. Rice is seen as more in alignment with the President on Foreign Policy issues. (She ought to be since she has been a principle architect of the Bush Administration's foreign policy since the beginning.) The article does not break any new ground, but it is interesting that the Arab world seems keenly aware of the US "changing of the guard." December 5, 2004: The Madeline Albright-Condoleezza Rice Connection? The fascinating, but true story of two women mentored by the same man, Madeline Albright's father, Dr. Josef Korbel, is highlighted in an op-ed piece today in (of all places) the Searcy, Arkansas, Daily Citizen. This "it's a small world" story is truly remarkable and mentioned in the biographies listed on the links page of this website. Dr. Korbel was a Czech diplomat given asylum in the US during World War II and subsequently became a professor at the University of Denver, Dr. Rice's alma mater. December 8, 2004: Old News and Commentary items are available on the website now. See the link to previous months on the News Archive page. December 6, 2004: Dr. Rice's nomination for an NAACP Image Award lead to the eventual ouster of Kweisi Mfume as president of that organization. That is the position offered by Armstrong Williams of Human Events, a weekly conservative publication, in an article published today. Read about how Mfume's "reaching out" to the Republicans may have contributed to his departure. December 6, 2004: Dr. Rice's approval ratings increase after the presidential election and her nomination to the Secretary of State post according to a Gallup organization poll. She's not as popular as outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell, but she has a stratospheric 87% approval rating among Republicans, a respectable 57% approval rating with "independents", and a 41% approval rating among Democrats. If Dr. Rice can maintain numbers like these, the presidency would be hers in 2008. President Bush's approval ratings hit 60% in the same poll after all of Kerry campaign's negative advertising disappeared from the airwaves. December 9, 2004: There was a Hannity and Colmes appearance by your webmaster, Richard Mason, this evening. It's nice to know that we are being noticed. We'll try and post the video as soon as we have permission to use it on the website. Meanwhile, it is listed on a blog. The response to the appearance was impressive. There have been many website visitors volunteering and many purchases of bumper stickers and campaign buttons. (We're going to have to reprint these AGAIN! The Guestbook comments are positive 170 to 2. (Not a bad ratio.) The private Guestbook comments are being read, as well. We understand that many Internet users wish to maintain their privacy. We will try to answer all of your inquiries and comments as quickly as possible. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT !!! December 10, 2004: "Business as Usual" In a copyrighted article in USA Today, Armstrong Williams, a syndicated columnist, author and one-time assistant to Clarence Thomas, discusses the "double-standard" for black conservatives, and how Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) is supporting the "status quo" for Democrats, where liberal blacks are exalted and conservative blacks are denigrated. It is worth the click to read this article. What happened to all of the talk of "bipartisanship"? Indeed, it is hard to teach dogs new tricks, especially when they are Democratic senators. December 10, 2004: "Thanks," but "no thanks," at least for now. The support of our website visitors has been, literally, overwhelming. You are welcome to show your support by purchasing bumper stickers or campaign buttons., but the legalities for forming a "Draft Condi" organization are still in the works. Unfortunately, these legalities of political organization take time. Please DO NOT send contributions to our mailing address, nor through PayPal®. We appreciate those who have attempted to do so, but we need to "dot our 'i's' and cross our 't's' before we can accept political contributions. If your contribution is returned, or declined through PayPal, it is not because we do not want your support, but we do not want to run amok of the Byzantine laws that govern political organizations. Thank you for your understanding. December 10, 2004: Organizational Meeting. Up until now our "movement" has existed in cyberspace and "around the water-cooler" where I work. It is now time to go to the next level. We are going to have an organizational meeting in Miami for South Florida supporters, but after discussing this, via e-mail and telephone, with many of you who have supported this website it really seems unfair to limit this to South Florida residents. Is there any interest in a national meeting? How about Las Vegas? The air fares and hotels are cheap, and we could all meet for a brainstorming session. Please e-mail meeting@americansforrice.com with your ideas and suggestions. December 10, 2004: Senator Barbara Boxer calls Dr. Rice a "liar" in Washington capital-speak. "I have concerns about truth-telling," Boxer said today. "The American people deserve to have a secretary of state who will tell them the truth, and I have a problem with Dr. Rice." The far left realizes what a threat Dr. Rice is to their aspirations for the future and ultimately in 2008. They will take every opportunity to diminish Dr. Rice and cast doubts on her integrity and abilities. December 10, 2004: Campaign Buttons damaged in mail. It has come to our attention that more secure packaging will be needed for the campaign buttons. Many have arrived damaged and will be replaced, of course. Bear with us while we look for alternative packaging. We have tried to e-mail all those affected, but if we missed you, e-mail us, webmaster@americansforrice.com. December 10, 2004: Running mate for "Condi"? This is a "just for fun" poll. Click here to participate. December 10, 2004: Guestbook comments. The tremendous response after the Hannity & Colmes appearance last night is reflected in the page after page of supportive comments left in our guestbook. Take a look, or sign the guest book yourself, we'll keep you advised of future developments as they occur. December 11, 2004: Who'll be Dr. Condoleezza Rice's Opponent? Take the poll. Do you think it will be a "squeaker" or will Dr. Rice "wipe the floor" with her Democratic opponent? Please note that these polls are for entertainment purposes only, but they are still alot of fun. Soon we will have a serious poll of all of our website users regarding key issues for 2008. December 12, 2004: Condi Photo Gallery. It has come to our attention that many of our website visitors have personal photos of Dr. Rice. If you have photos like these and would like to see them posted, please e-mail the webmaster. Click here to see our first contribution. December 13, 2004: President Rice? Dr. Rice is portrayed as "President Contessa Brice" in a science fiction novel by D. A. Dickens. Click here to see the Barnes & Noble listing. To us, It sounds like a cross between X-Files and US News and World Report. Anyone want to write a review? December 13, 2004: We are finally catching up from our flood of purchases, correspondence and guestbook entries after the Hannity & Colmes appearance. (Our distribution list is now nearing 1000!) The overwhelmingly POSITIVE responses are an indicator of a very bright future. We now have some clerical assistance and will be answering your comments and guestbook entries as soon as possible. YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO US!!! WE HAVE PLANS FOR YOUR FUTURE AS THE CORE OF A "DRAFT CONDI" movement. You will hear from us soon. We need your help and will be asking for it. December 16, 2004: We just received the lyrics and audio file for "Condoleezza Will Lead Us" from Lane Steinberg of the group Tan Sleeve. We posted a reduced bit rate version of the song (more or less AM-radio quality). If you like it, at this link you can download the "high fidelity" version it for a mere 99¢. Also check out their song, "American Blood" while you are there. Better yet, visit the Tan Sleeve website and buy their entire album! December 19, 2004: After several false starts, the issues poll is up and running. Please vote on these 19 critical issues. If you previously voted, your votes were, unfortunately, lost -- so please vote again! Click here, or on the Issues Poll link to the left. December 20, 2004: Two growing problems for our incoming Secretary of State, Dr. Rice, will be dealing with our "allies" the French and the growing threat to the south in Venezuela posed by dictator Hugo Chavez. The two are strangely connected by their affinity for our enemies in the Middle East. President Chirac has recently permitted a pro-Saddam Baathist group “La Resistance” to operate out of Paris. Check this terrorist group's website -- it should be required reading for Americans. It is incredible that this group, dedicated to killing American and coalition forces in Iraq, is permitted to operate freely in Paris! To further confirm the French government's anti-American credentials, they just finished hosting Walid Jumblatt, head of the Progressive Socialist Party in Lebanon. This member of the Lebanese parliament has had his US diplomatic visa cancelled and has been quoted in the London-based Saudi paper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat saying “We are all happy when U.S. soldiers are killed [in Iraq] week in and week out. The killing of U.S. soldiers in Iraq is legitimate and obligatory.” (Read the FontpageMag.com article for further details.) Hugo Chavez, in his efforts to become Fidel Castro, Jr., has recently visited the Iranians and staged raids of Jewish parochial schools (ostensibly looking for weapons) to establish his anti-Israeli bona fides. Even the left-leaning LA Times recognized Chavez as threat in a recent op-ed article. Of course, Chavez already has a long history of anti-American activities, but his recent alignment with our Middle Eastern enemies and "trouble making" in Columbia are a cause for great concern. (Read about this in greater detail in an article by A.M. Mora y Leon published in the American Thinker and VCrisis.com as well as the LA Times editorial) December 20, 2004: Two growing problems for our incoming Secretary of State, Dr. Rice, will be dealing with our "allies" the French and the growing threat to the south in Venezuela posed by dictator Hugo Chavez. What are your preferences for future products from americansforrice.com? We have had numerous requests t-shirts. This will be our next product line, but do coffee cups, refrigerator magnets, etc. seem like good ideas to you, our website users. You can rest assured that our items are produced for you, and ONLY you. We are not a "front" for an organization that would produce a t-shirt, coffee mug, button, bumper sticker, etc. for any cause, anytime, anywhere. We are DEDICATED to Dr. Rice becoming our next president -- not selling bumper stickers, buttons, and t-shirts -- although we will certainly do that if it helps Dr. Rice become our next president. Your input is essential. Fill up our inboxes for when we return after the first of the year. December 24, 2004: We had wanted to post a few more items prior to the Christmas and New Year's holidays. However, a last minute rush of orders for bumper stickers and campaign buttons kept us from putting the finishing touches on several new pages. The most important of which will be a Why I Support Dr. Rice for President in 2008 page. This idea started as a column, but if we receive good input from our website users, may turn into more of a "forum" type format. Further, we will have a newsletter going out after the first of the year to keep you posted on the latest developments with regards to a formal organization. Since the office where the website computer will be located is closed until January 3, 2005; there will most likely be no further new posts or e-mail correspondence until January 4th. Please excuse any delays in responding to your inquiries during this time. One, or two, of us may try to make it in shortly after Christmas Day, but that is not a certainty. Merry Christmas (a belated Happy Hanukah) and Happy New Year to all of you. The New Year will be busy and looks to be quite promising. |
